Through projects like the Changing Times; Inspiring Libraries Summit, BC Libraries and Literacy is working to build stronger relationships between libraries and local governments and a stronger realization of the value that libraries can have for communities. As part of that work, we are reaching out to local governments across the province, working to help reframe their ideas of what libraries can be (and can do for them).

The following article, written by BC Libraries and Literacy for the Local Government Management Association (LGMA), looks at collaborative relationships between libraries and local governments that are transforming the communities they serve. These kinds of collaboration are not unusual, but for a local government councillor or administrator who may not be aware of the real potential of libraries, this article may help to highlight and reimagine what’s possible.

See the article in the June edition of Exchange Magazine (Page 20).

We encourage any library to use this article as way to start a fresh conversation with their local government about what the potential of the library in their community.

Exchange Magazine is the in-house magazine of the Local Government Management Association of British Columbia, and  goes out to the municipal, regional and city administrators of BC (CAOs, city managers, etc.).
